Sanjaya Malakar Refuses To Go Away
Sanjaya Malakar somehow managed to make American Idol’s top ten, while Stephanie Edwards was sent packing. Go figure. It was hearbreaking to watch, especially since this summer's concert tour is going to be, well, a traveling karaoke band.
After we suffered through lackluster performances by the week’s mentors Peter Noone and Lulu, our pal Seacrest finally got to the make or break results.
We thought Sanjaya was a sure goner when it came to Sanjaya vs. Haley vs. Gina. However, in a shocking Idol twist, both Sanjaya and our bottom two pick Haley were safe along with rocker Gina. While some would call Sanjaya’s survival a crying shame, others, like the now inexplicably famous Ashley Ferl, 13, whose love for the singer may have influenced America to phone-in their votes after her tear-streaked face appeared on Tuesday’s broadcast, clearly think otherwise.
“I think he’s so phenomenal,” she told Meredith Viera on this morning’s Today Show. “I just couldn’t believe that I got to see him live. It’s like a dream come true.”
In the end, two of our Usmagazine.com-endorsed favorites, Stephanie and Chris Richardson faced the fact that they were in this week’s bottom two. At that point, we almost changed the channel, unwilling to say our goodbyes so soon, but we were reassured when a mature Stephanie confidently told America that she’ll keep on singing.
