Taylor Hicks is feeling lighter on his feet for good reason, PEOPLE reveals in its new issue.
The 6'1" Soul Patrol singer has shed nearly 22 lbs., going from 215 to 193, since his American Idol win last May. How'd he do it? By ditching fast food and such southern comforts as fried chicken. In their place: Salads, brown rice, fish and chicken noodle soup. "It's good for your throat," he says. "It's also comforting, but it's light."
Not that the 30-year-old Alabaman – who's currently on a 53-city tour to promote his self-titled album –...

Even American Idol winners can have a bad restaurant experience now and then. Taylor Hicks likes to take his hometown Alabama buddies out to dinner in upscale LA restaurants. He brought his pals to French 75 Bistro in Burbank and they were seated at a back table. The guys sat at the table for twenty minutes and for some reason no one paid any attention to them. Eventually, they felt snubbed and just got up and left. Embarrassed, Taylor took his friends to another place he frequented nearby and he told the host what happened. "I guess they...

Taylor Hicks has released his self-titled debut album and he's now going on tour. He kicks off his first show in February in Jacksonville, Florida and while he told MTV that he hopes it will last 10 years, the dates are only scheduled through April 27th in Kansas City. Taylor put on quite a show on GMA this week at The Hard Rock in Times Square. But doesn't he always? He sings, he dances, he plays the tambourine. He is his own one man band. Hicks, 30, will sing his versions of the Smokey Robinson classic "Ain't That Peculiar," originally performed by Gaye; "Wherever I Lay My Hat," written by Marvin Gaye, and "Dream Myself Awake," by Rob Thomas. Also included is "The...

In a shocking new interview with Relix magazine, Taylor Hicks insults 'American Idol'.
'You’ve said, “Having a number-one single is only the beginning.” How so? What steps are you taking to insure your longevity as an artist in a climate where someone catapulted into pop culture like yourself can come and go so quickly?
That single, “Do I Make You Proud,” I tried to make that single my own single but in reality it’s the show’s single. It’s not mine. The song that was given to me first, I got up from a chair and...

When "American Idol" winner Taylor Hicks makes a brief stop in Austin this weekend, somebody better show him a good time — he needs it.
By Sunday night's American Idols Live Tour at the Erwin Center, he'll be on performance No. 50 of a 60-show nationwide tour with nine other "American Idol" contestants. They share cramped tour buses and stage space, belting out cover songs to arenas of fans almost nightly.
Who'd argue Hicks doesn't deserve to relax, Austin style? It'll be his first time in town.
"Hopefully, I'll be able to get out...
